The Albanian Riviera might not be on everyone’s radar yet, but that won’t last long. It’s one of those rare places where the coastline still feels untouched – barely any crowds, plenty of empty sun loungers and water so clear you can see the smooth white stones on the sea bed without even dipping your head under. The Ionian Sea glows in shades of aquamarine and with sunshine almost year-round, it won’t stay a secret for long.
Tucked along this coastline is the newly opened Green Coast Hotel – a calm, luxurious hideaway that feels like it’s been designed for people who really need to switch off. The suites are spacious, some with private, triangle-shaped outdoor spaces (very Cleopatra chic) and ocean views that immediately ease you into holiday mode. The allure of the ocean will have you in swimwear and headed to the beach within minutes. The design blends into the landscape with soft, sandy tones and curved lookout points by the pool where you’ll probably find yourself sipping something cold and fizzy.
If you’re in the mood to explore, hop on a boat with a local and cruise along the coast – you will find hidden coves, dramatic caves and quiet little beaches that feel like they’ve fallen straight out of a fairytale. Some spots even come with whispered legends of pirates and secret hideouts. One place you absolutely have to visit is Gjipe Beach – tucked inside a gorge, totally off the beaten track and the kind of clear, turquoise water where you will spot silver fish swimming beside you – no snorkel needed.
The Green Coast Resort itself is shaping up to be a sleek, modern Mediterranean hub – with hotels, apartments, kids clubs, restaurants and more. There’s endless beaches, a pretty promenade with beach bars and shops and a wellness space if you’re in the mood to switch off completely. Whether you want to relax by the pool, go hiking in the mountains, take the kids off to explore, or treat yourself to a spa day, it’s all right here – set against the backdrop of the Ionian sea and mountains.
The recent opening of the Green Coast Hotel was a big moment for Albanian tourism – fresh, exciting and a step into something new. The hotel is part of the MGallery Collection, which is all about boutique luxury with a personal touch. Each MGallery hotel has its own story, rooted in the culture and spirit of its location. You are stepping into something thoughtfully designed, full of character and often showcasing local artists and creators. No two hotels are the same and that’s exactly the magic of it.
MGallery’s presence here fits beautifully. CEO Maud Bailly has built a vision around key ‘M’s – mindfulness, memory-making, meaning and those little ‘Mmoments’ that make a stay feel truly personal. Each hotel has bespoke ‘Mmoments’ for guests – in Albania it’s a paragliding experience. As Maud puts it, “hospitality isn’t just about taking – it’s about giving.” That includes creating jobs locally and celebrating Albanian culture in a really authentic way.
Just a short flight from Tirana and you’re in Athens – a total shift in energy. It’s a buzzing city full of charm and character. Another city that doesn’t sleep, apparently! If you want to be right in the heart of it all, the Athens Capital Hotel (part of the MGallery Collection) is a stunning option. But if you’re in the mood to really treat yourself, book into the brand-new Athens Capital Suites, just around the corner, tucked away on one of the city’s oldest streets
.
For somewhere so central, it’s surprisingly calm and peaceful. The suites feel more like a Parisian apartment than a hotel – private, elegant and beautifully furnished. Soft fluffy towels that wrap around your whole body and gorgeous bespoke toiletries all add to the finesse of these suites. You can still access all the hotel perks: a rooftop bar and pool with views across Athens and straight up to the Parthenon, plus beach escapes just 20 minutes away. Inside, it’s all about those thoughtful touches – bespoke Athenian marble, soft plush furnishings, remote-controlled blinds and monogrammed bedding. There’s even a private wellness area, gym and 24-hour reception. Once you check in…you won’t want to leave.
All MGallery hotels have their own scent, the suites have a citrus scent. There are just nine floors in the building which include 19 suites. The food is to die for with a mix of traditional Greek salad and Greek Mezzo washed down with Ouzo (yes it’s not just a shot drink) and for all the fish lovers, I have never seen a seabass as big at dinner – there was enough for at least six servings.
Athens is a really walkable city, but if you want to go a bit deeper into its history and culture, I’d definitely recommend a guided walking tour with a local. It is such a great way to learn more about the city – from the stories behind the street art to the longest luxury shopping street in Athens and Mount Lycabettus (you can hike it, or take the funicular if you’re not in the mood for hills). We wandered through Praxitelous Street too, which is full of cool little bars and places to eat that you might not find on your own. That’s the beauty of having a guide – you would easily walk past hidden gems like ‘The Clumsies’, a cocktail bar that’s actually ranked in the world’s top 50 (you would never know from the outside). Cocktails were surprisingly affordable too – some under €10.
The Greek hospitality is exceptional and hard to beat, the friendliness, knowledge and sheer class of the amazing Athens Capital Hotel team are next level. The women running these hotels are inspiring, authentic and dedicated to making your stay special. The bespoke Mmoment in Athens was a ‘Komboloi’ (traditional Greek worry beads) introduction class.
If you want to experience the beauty of the unspoiled Albanian coastline and also the city that never sleeps (Athens) why not combine both countries in one holiday! Both are unique and will leave you wanting to return, as the Senior Marketing PR & Manager of the Athens Capital Suites and the hotel, Stella Chondrou said to me, “Once doesn’t count to visit – once is like never.” I completely agree.
